MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

 

Reporting into the Mechanical Engineering Manager, responsibility includes design, implementation, and documentation of mechanical design systems for various type of automated equipment. Including the ability to prioritize workloads, balance multiple projects simultaneously, work cross-functionally and collaborate with internal stakeholders and customers.

The engineer filling this position will be responsible for the engineering, design, and overall project management of small to medium scale automated and semi-automated manufacturing systems for a variety of diverse industries.  A proven record of successful project implementation from conceptual design through final sign-off is a requirement.   

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSME or technical degree

  • 5-7 years of relevant industry experience

  • Expert level proficiency in SolidWorks

  • Knowledgeable in the use of AutoCad

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment with little or no supervision

  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently when necessary

  • Ability to communicate well with senior managers as well as shop personnel in a variety of situations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review new projects including proposals and job specifications and resolve inconsistencies.

  • Review customer specifications and standard practices - inclusive of the internal material and commercial parts standards, general specifications, and scope of work.

  • Generate design packages including 3D Models, detailed assembly, sub assembly, and part drawings, pneumatic layouts, installation plans, BOMs, etc.  Will also work with Sales on concept generation when necessary

  • Supervise and/or assemble mechanical subassemblies, plumbing of pneumatic panels and components, and plumbing of hydraulic panels and components in the shop when required.

  • Supervise installation of machinery and equipment at customer’s facility when required. 

  • Mechanical troubleshooting, debugging, and mechanical field service at client facility if needed.

  • Participate in kickoff meetings, design reviews and acceptance testing.

  • Ability to lead customer review meetings, internal project team meetings and perform project management task as assigned.
