Founder & President
Troy founded McAlister Design Inc. in 1992 and has successfully led the business in continual growth and expansion for 28 years. Troy has managed hundreds of automation and robotics projects over the years and still leads MDI as an integral member of Management, Sales, and Application Engineering.
Russ has 20+ years’ experience in Design & Manufacturing Engineering with world class Global organizations. As the Director of Engineering & Operations for the GE Appliance division for nearly a decade, He was saturated in the disciplines of the Toyota Production System & the direct impact this lean principle has on Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Russ is excited to be on the MDI Team and to utilize his passion of Integrity and Teamwork.
North & South Carolina Sales Manager
Rick has been with McAlister Design since 2003 and has led the company as its main resource to reach new customers, call on existing customers, and works with application engineers to provide pricing for turn-key automation and robotic systems that are completely customized and tailored to the end user’s needs.
Georgia Sales Engineer
Scott joined the MDI Sales team in 2015, Scott brings over 25 years of engineering for custom machine design and solution sales experience to MDI. He has worked as a sales engineer in system integration/custom machinery, vision inspection, and the robotics industry for over 11 years and is now responsible for developing new business for MDI in the southeastern U.S.
Joe earned his Electronics Engineering degree in 1990 from Greenville Technical College and brings many years of valuable professional experience to MDI from multiple industries. Some of those include electronics tech designing and testing automated production and pilot equipment for robotics and HMI programming. Joe held an IT position for ten years, where he served as LAN Admin at WYFF-TV. Joe even owned his own electrical business along his career path. Joe's focus is on building strong client relationships while furthering his career.
Applications Engineering Manager
Before joining MDI, Philip served six years in the Marine Corps as a Communications, Navigation, and Electronic Countermeasures technician on A-6E and EA-6B aircraft. While attending college in 1996, Philip joined MDI as a Controls Engineer. During the following 18 years, Philip was heavily involved in the design, programming, implementation, and project management of many wide-ranging projects. Philip has been in engineering and project management at McAlister Design for over 20 years.
Electrical Engineering Designer and Programmer
Philip began his career as a Mechanical Technician in 2008 and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering in 2010.
He spent the early years of his career on an Electrical Engineering team and fulfilled a role at Creform designing
Automated Guided Vehicles. Philip returned home and joined the MDI team in 2017 as an Applications Engineering Manager.
He enjoys working on challenging projects that stretch his abilities.

Electrical Engineering Supervisor
Pam joined the MDI team in 2013 as an Electrical Technician. She
earned her degree in Electrical Engineering in 2014 and moved into the role of Electrical Engineer. Pam has completed various job functions at MDI from electrical purchasing to PLC and Robot programming. Her favorite area of work lies in schematics and drawings. Most recently, she was excited to be promoted to the new role of Electrical Engineering Supervisor.
Mechanical Engineering Manager
Tom joined McAlister Design in 2019 as a Mechanical Engineer. He has over 25 years of experience in custom machine design and has extensive experience in a manufacturing environment. His specialties include the design of new machines, fixtures, and process improvements of existing machines. Along with his machine design duties, Tom assists the sales department in application engineering, assigns work, and monitors the scope, budget, and timeline of the mechanical department's various projects.

Human Resources Manager
Shannon joined the McAlister Design team in 2020. Having worked mostly in the areas of manufacturing, automotive and retail, she brings many years of experience in Benefits Administration, Employment Law and Employee Relations of both small and large business environments. She enjoys providing support to all employees in the organization.
Todd joined McAlister Design in January 2016 to lead the manufacturing group in its next phase of growth. He has 30 years of experience managing the assembly and startup of automated equipment. Todd is responsible for the coordination and transfer of projects from the engineering group to the assembly group. Todd plans and assigns work, monitors project cost and timelines, and maintains a safe working environment in the shop.
Austin joined MDI in June 2021 and brings with him a solid work ethic and ability to select and purchase materials for projects at MDI in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Austin is responsible for obtaining quality suppliers, best prices and products in the marketplace. Austin has previous experience in team leadership and finding solutions to assist in
developing a thriving workplace.
